News Release

Elie Salibi elected as new Conservative candidate for Ottawa South

Feb. 23, 2007
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OTTAWA – Members of the Ottawa South Conservative Association (OSCA) have elected Elie Salibi as their new federal Conservative candidate for Ottawa South.

Mr. Salibi is now slated to take on sitting MP David McGuinty in the next federal election.

“I will work tirelessly to defeat the incumbent Member of Parliament in order to make sure that Ottawa South sends a Conservative Member of Parliament to the House of Commons,” says Elie Salibi. “We are going to win Ottawa South by going street-by-street, house-to-house, and vote-by-vote.”

Mr. Salibi, an Ottawa South resident since 1986, currently works for an Ottawa South high tech firm. He is well known for being an active member of the Church of St. Elias in the riding, and he also serves as director of political affairs in the Lebanese Information Centre.

“I’m extremely happy with the selection of Elie as our candidate,” says Rob Dekker, president of OSCA. “OSCA members had two excellent candidates to choose from, I respect their judgement, and I’m confident Ottawa South will go Conservative in the next federal election.”

Mr. Salibi’s main challenger for the nomination was George Brown. Out of the 460 votes cast at the nomination meeting, Mr. Salibi obtained 278, while Mr. Brown had 182.

“Elie ran a great campaign, he got his vote out, and he’s going to work like a lion,” says George Brown. “I look forward to working with him, he has my unqualified support, and we’re going to put him into the next parliament.”

To learn more about Elie, please visit: http://www.eliesalibi.ca/.
